Seasonal parties provide creative opportunities for SpiritCare volunteers to engage with care home residents. Going through the year, here are some party ideas:
- New Year - celebrate "all things new"
- Valentine's Day - make Valentines and red floral arrangements
- Easter - decorate Easter eggs, share chocolate eggs, sing Easter hymns and songs
- Summer - help host an outdoor party - barbecue, luau or afternoon tea
- Fall - harvest or halloween (All Hallows) event, animal-centric event for October 4th (St Francis Day)
- Christmas - make memories to hang on a Christmas tree, put up Christmas lights and decorations, sing Christmas carols and songs
Essential Qualifications
- Experience at helping organize parties and events
- Ability to work closely with the facility to find what they will provide and what you will provide
- Detailed planning and scheduling expertise
- Knowledge of appropriate foods, suppliers and props
- A joyful spirit
Other Qualifications
- Ability to bring in other people to provide entertainment
- Entertainment experience
Typical Time Commitment
6 hours on the day of the event - 3 hour party, plus set up before and clean up afterwards
Pre-event planning - several hours, involving at least one visit to the facility
Post-event - writing thank you notes, following up with other helpers
