Position
Some care homes let residents bring a small pet with them, but for many who move into residential care it means leaving a much loved pet behind. Some seniors love to pet a docile dog and see its tail wag. Where there is an outside lawn or patio, it can be fun to watch a dog run around. You might give a retriever a stick or toy to carry - this can provide endless amusement.
Visitors have brought other animals. For example, pot-bellied pigs can be amusing pets for seniors to watch.
Around St Francis Day (October 4th) SpiritCare typically participates in Blessing of the Animals with a local church. Volunteers are needed to help on this one-off occasion where they may have their pets blessed.
